On a whim and a prayer (kind of)

I was looking at the website for this summer's upcoming True Colors Tour line-up and decided to lightheartedly but also kind of seriously shoot this message to them via their official Myspace page:

So I'm perusing your lineup for the 2008 True Colors tour and it's seriously lacking in some faggy musical talent. What gives? Are Fred Schneider and Carson from Queer Eye all you can muster up? How about, oh, I don't know, a fantastic three piece power pop band with a gay front man and a gay drummer who play catchy, melodic, danceable rock music to balance things out a little.

In other words, us, Ex-Boyfriends. We just played a show with The Cliks here in San Francisco and drew just as much of a crowd as them and rocked the house. I think you owe it to the folks coming to your tour to present them with a tad more musical variety.

We await your request to have us join the tour!

xoxo EXBF

P. S. Yes, this is definitely a bit of a tongue in cheek email but we're also completely serious about wanting to be a part of the tour.

They most likely won't read it but, hey, ya never know! Oh, and imagine our label has done a single thing to get us on a tour like this. NARY!

Sunday in the Park with Rock-n-Roll

Today we played a quick and dirty set at Dolores Park for the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence annual Easter bash. The day was full of sun, fun, crowds, hot guys, tranny fierceness, booze, little kids exposed to many San Francisco values, hanging out with friends from work and getting a sliiight sunburn that will be a tan by tomorrow or the next day, thanks to my Greek heritage. And lots and lots of photos.

Prurient Prudes and Voyeuristic Vilifiers

I was planning on writing this post last night but I got sidetracked by something shiny or whatever and didn't. And then I saw this totally right-on post on my friend Richard's blog and remembered. First of all, props David and Michelle Paterson for their candor AND for telling people it's not really any of their business. But I think it's fucking ludicrous that they even need to disclose any of this in the first place. It's like I said in my comment on Richard's blog:

"Word the fuck up. I am so sick of our prudish/perverted culture where we vilify people for sexual practices that are none of our business and then demand to know every lurid detail. It's like the entire United States is suffering from massive sexual dysfunction."

Everyone in their mother has their panties in 85 knots over Eliot Spitzer and Hookergate Ought Eight - It's immoral! It's wrong! It's exploitative! It's conduct unbecoming of a politician! But hey, guess what? It's actually none of our fucking business. I am always flabbergasted by Americans who tout these practically puritanical values about sex and sexuality but still want to savor every morsel of information about the sex lives of others. It's this vicarious, voyeuristic thrill that we all wallow in and then go wash off with a Lifetime Television Movie-esque shower afterwards. We (and by "we" I am talking about the culture at large, not certain individuals who don't buy into this bullshit) want to get our rocks off and cluck our tongues and pass judgment at the same time. But you can't have your scandalous thrills and eat piety pie too, folks.

Annalee Newitz also makes an excellent point about how all these people are criticizing him for obtaining the services of a prostitute and how exploitative and horrible that is. O RLY? But treating your waitress at Denny's like shit and not tipping her because it's not a "fancy restaurant" is just business as usual? People try to draw these really bold, thick, lines around sex work and exploitation but the truth is that it's not a cut and dried situation and never has been. But you don't see these same people wanting to, say, improve the lives and working conditions of sex workers do you? No, they just want them all to repent and be saved and then, what? Work alongside that aforementioned miserable waitress at Denny's? Everyone wants the "exploitation" to end but they don't want to actually enact any real change for women or for their labor or anything like that. It's like the anti-abortionists who don't want any fetuses aborted but would rather eat glass than see unwanted babies adopted by a gay couple or something. They want to spew their opinions and do nothing to change what they think is so wrong in the first place.

And, frankly, I'm never convinced that the people who bray the loudest about something they see as immoral (paying prostitutes for sex, being gay, watching porn, etc.) aren't doing the same damn thing in their shame-filled, secret, private lives. Yes, I'm thinking of you, Senator Craig.

Go see this movie now!!

Last night my friend Cas and I went to see Girls Rock, the documentary about the Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls in Portland, Oregon. It was a really fantastic, moving, funny, awesome movie. I highly recommend seeing it and taking any young girls you know along with you. Hell, take young boys too, I think it would be just as good for them to experience this movie.

Check out the trailer - it already made me misty-eyed before I even saw the movie.

P.S. Laura, one of the girls featured in the film, is about 800 kinds of awesome. She seriously rules.

Words...they fail me.

I found this video courtesy of my equally wrong yet also lovely friend Michael Reed. Feast your eyes and ears on Debbie Reynolds singing "If I Had a Hammer":

So white it's almost blinding!!

When I hear about a 15 year old kid being shot in school for being gay I don't think of compassion or healing or change. I think about finding the piece of shit that shot him and swinging him by his legs through as many plate glass windows as he can stay intact for.

How stupid is your water?

The ads for Gatorade's new Propel water crack me up. They go on and on about the fact that Vitamin Water has 125 calories per bottle and theirs only has 25 calories per bottle! How awesome! Choose our water instead!

You know what kind of water has ZERO calories? ACTUAL WATER.

Ex-Boyfriends Get DIRTY.

Originally uploaded by ohnochriso.
Today was the video shoot for our song "Situation". It was amazing and fun and exhausting and completely filthy. We shot it in the "Shooting Range" at the SF Armory, an amazing building inside and out. The whole crew was comprised of co-workers of mine and they all displayed the talent and professionalism that they're known for plus a passion for this project that was actually really touching. To have a group of people get together to make this happen for our band - and for so little money - is really a labor of love. I cannot wait to share the finished product - it's going to be fucking awesome!
